The Week | Over the last 30 years, it seems like it has gotten a little tougher for kids to start that most Norman Rockwell of ventures, the lemonade stand.
Back in the 1980s and 1990s there were a few instances of local governments shutting kids’ stands down for various reasons, although officials typically bowed to public pressure and allowed them to reopen.
In 1983, 6-year-old Ali Thorn’s lemonade stand in Belleair, Fla., was closed down after police received an anonymous complaint that her sign did not comply with city ordinances, but was quickly allowed to reopen.

CNS News | In addressing criticism of the Common Core national education standards, a panelist at the Center for American Progress (CAP), a liberal think tank, said critics were a “tiny minority” who opposed standards altogether, which was unfair because “the children belong to all of us.”
The CAP was founded by John Podesta, former chief of staff to Bill Clinton and now an adviser to President Barack Obama. At a CAP event to promote Common Core on Friday, CNSNews.com asked about the critics who say federal monetary incentives attached to Common Core is driving the states to implement the standards.
The Jerusalem Post | Negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians will likely require more time than previously anticipated, US officials acknowledged to The Jerusalem Post on Monday, as the nine-month deadline for peace talks set last July by US Secretary of State John Kerry is on the verge of expiring in two months.
Kerry and his team have suggested publishing a framework for negotiations going forward that the parties would collectively roll out before the April 29 deadline. But the Americans now view the hard date they originally set to be “artificial” and suggest that even the framework might need more time, given some important gaps that still remain.
Christian Post | The Obama administration’s argument that mandating birth control coverage reduces unintended pregnancies and has health benefits for women is based upon faulty reasoning and flawed research, the Beverly LaHaye Institute argues in an Amicus, or “friend of the court” brief for a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.
In the case Sebelius vs. Hobby Lobby, which the Supreme Court will hear in March, Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties are suing the Obama administration over its mandate to cover birth control, including some drugs that can be abortifacients. Hobby Lobby and Conestoga Wood Specialties, Christian-owned companies, argue that the mandate violates their owners’ religious beliefs.
Christian Post | Despite the fact that the 25-year-old Barbadian pop star posts Instagram pictures of herself smoking, partying and taking vacations the singer insists that her real life is starkly different.
“I think they think I’m drunk all the time. I think they think I am always partying, that my house is probably a party all the time with tons of people and tons of music and no clothes. I think that’s what they think,” she said according to USA Today. “I’m actually very laid back. I love watching TV on a big old couch by myself. I love to swim in the ocean or the pool.”
Rihanna has also decided to take on a creative partnership with MAC cosmetics where she “wanted to expand my role, so to speak, as a more philanthropic role,” USA Today reports.
ABC News | President Obama’s tenure is becoming “increasingly lawless” with his embrace of executive orders, which are “creating a dangerous trend which is contrary to the Constitution,” House Budget Committee Chair Rep. Paul Ryan said today on “This Week.”
“It’s not the number of executive orders, it’s the scope of the executive orders. It’s the fact that he’s actually contradicting law, like in the health care case [when Obama delayed provisions of the Affordable Care Act], or proposing new laws without going through Congress, George, that’s the issue,” Ryan told George Stephanopoulos on “This Week.”
The situation was terrible – with killing, atrocities, and fear as the background. Unidentified armed men came into town, but it was obvious that they were Jabhat al-Nusra militants …The worst crime they committed was that they toasted people in ovens used to bake bread when those people came to buy it. They kidnapped and beat up many
